13: Spring Obession

Welcome to another weekly installment

Week: 73.4 (+ 34.9km)
Year: 771.5km (+ 334.5km)

LONGEST RUN: 30k

This past weekend was Around the Bay 30km. For the last 3 years I've dreamt of doing the run, having signed up but never actually competed in the event. It was time for an test run in the middle of the week.
Great timing as the weather on wed was a balmy 8 degrees, compared to Thursday and Friday -21 with wind chill.

You're probably thinking how this 30k happened:
DVP Trail to Pottery, hitch onto Bayview
Bayview to Brickworks.
UP Mud Creek or Moore Trails
Mt. Pleasent to Eglinton.
Across back to Yonge.
Downhill from Yonge to Rosedale.
Through Rosedale to the viaduct
Down Broadview, turning home.
Then lakeshore to Woodbine loop.

Last section, I was hurting!

Took Thursday OFF, and Friday was my first "unplanned zero". Woke up late for bfast date with MS @ MC. And the temperature dropping to -21 with windchill did NOT help that matter.

Friday also meant - full day of work, and play! out till 1:30am
Saturday I sucked it up and went out for a jog...
overall could have done 90+, but unplanned zero's are my indicators that I have too much on my plate!

12: Pile on the Mileage

This week: 90.4km ( +51.9km)
*NEW* Best run: MUDRUN (details below)
Year: 684.1km ( +299.6km)

Bike: 100km (Just commuting)
Accomplishments/ reflection:

This week marked the best "winter" weather we've had since the 60s. The temperature was a blistering 17 degrees on Wed and Thursday which resulted in some shorts wearing opportunities.
Seeing as the weather was SO great, I ended up running 23 km on both days. On Wed (commonly known as St.Paddy's day) I ended the night of reading with a nice run out to the end of the beaches --> Richmond/University. It was a great route, and ended with a tall americano at whorebux.
Thursday meant that there was going to be a long day stuck at work. 5 hours followed by a quick bike ride to another 4 hours meant I was pretty tired. During my break I decided to bike home and make an americano and bring it back. Good idea, as it rejunvinated me for the next 7 hours of awake time.

Impromtu mud run:
I started with a run up the to the trails (the long way), and running along bayview as I famously do. Bayview is a road that goes about 70km/h.... to hitch up to Mud Creek. You would think that I was all muddy by the first 10km, oh ... you stand corrected as it wasn't until the second trail (Leading from St.Clair/Heath). I finally found the second entrance to the trail and decided to run on my "regular" side as I felt more comfortable slugging away. Half way into the trail, I realizde that I was running upwards up the slant of the hill. Not such a great idea with leaves slightly covering the muddy patches I would soon discover. As I went higher it felt similar to running on quick sand. So i made fast feet and didn't get anything dirty. Returning to the trail meant climbing over a large branch/log. As I leaped off of the branch, my entire left FOOT SANK into the mud. (glug). epic FAIL. noticing that my right foot was still fine I kept going, adment that I would just still keep it clean. 5 steps later, same result, different shoe.
AFter that it meant that I was going to get the shoes dirty regardless of the trail. In hindsight, I should have avoided this trail until May, as the trail is still thawing away. Good to know. There still remained about 8km until I was home, so that resulted in some looks by pedestrains.

Lesson learned!
Happy days!

11: Paralympics time!

Weekly Total: 56km ( + 17.2km)
Yearly: 593.4km (+247.7km)

4 x 14km runs. 3 days off. 1 affected by 12 days of straight running. 1 day affected by lack of time. 1 day affected by Rainy weather.

Overall: slightly disappointed.

Today: no run - not enough time and feeling really low energy due to Daylight savings of jumping forward by one hour. Not much difference, but it has been weird going home with the sun setting.....

Agenda for this week: Finish reading Dahl. GEtting cracking with the planning. and more reading.

week 10: March Madness

Welcome again to another weekly report of the running machine, PandaClaws ver.2.0.

March MAdness starts March 18th til the end of the month.
Final Four is happening around Easter Weekend.. yikes.

Not only has the third month begun early this week, we in N.America have been on a high from the olympics. Canada met again in the Men's Hockey game that ended the XXI olympics in Vancouver on a celebratory note. Just like the women's match, the Canadian NHL superstars won with much style. It was a story book ending for Stevie Y and his boyz. Sid the Kid made the HUGE game winning goal in OT to cap off an amazing olympics performance by the Cdn team. 14 GOLD medals, 6 in the last 3 days, and just a warm, friendly and spontaneous cheerful pride that will be known for the games. The legacy that was left behind will be in the minds of many Canadians for years to come.

GO CANADA GO!

Weekly stats: 87km (+51.5km) WOOOO achieved my goal.
Year to date: 537.4km (+ 230.2km)

Still debating whether to change my dates from Sun-Sat, ---> Mon-Sun.

Other exciting news: Alice in Wonderland 3D Tim Burton style has hit the theatres. Should be a great movie.
